Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif admitted that the army was taken by surprise during the night of May 9-10 when India deployed BrahMos missiles to target significant military installations, including the Rawalpindi airport.
India launched BrahMos even before dawn
Addressing a gathering in Azerbaijan, one of the few countries that have supported Pakistan, Sharif stated that the military, commanded by Asim Munir, had intended to strike India on May 10 following the morning prayers. Nonetheless, the Prime Minister stated that even prior to sunrise, long-range supersonic BrahMos cruise missiles fell on multiple regions of Pakistan.

Sharif stated that he learned about the early morning assault from Munir, who has since been elevated to the rank of Field Marshal.

“During the night of May 9-10, we chose to react in a measured way to Indian hostility. Our military was set to respond at 4:30 AM following Fajr prayers to deliver a lesson. However, prior to that, India once more conducted a missile strike with BrahMos, aiming at several regions in Pakistan, including the Rawalpindi airport,” Sharif stated in his address in Lachin.
‘Nur Khan airbase was one of the targets’: Shehbaz
The Nur Khan airbase located in Rawalpindi was one of the 11 military installations hit by India as a reaction to Pakistan’s drone and missile strikes on populated regions near the western border.
In addition to Nur Khan, India targeted Pakistani military installations in Rafiqui, Murid, Rahim Yar Khan, Sukkur, and Chunian. The air bases located in Skardu, Bholari, Jacobabad, and Sargodha incurred significant damage as well.
