The BJP has issued a show-cause notice to Amar Kishore Kashyap, the party’s district president in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, after a video showing him in a seemingly intimate moment with a woman at the local party office went viral on social media. The party has described the footage as damaging to its image and demanded a written explanation within seven days.
The incident reportedly took place on April 12. In the video, a woman, identified as a party worker, is seen walking ahead of Kashyap on a staircase. He catches up, places his arm around her shoulder, briefly hugs her, and the two continue walking.

Govind Narayan Shukla, BJP state general secretary, stated in the notice, “The video in circulation reflects conduct that has harmed the party’s reputation and amounts to indiscipline.” He further warned that failure to respond within the stipulated time would invite strict disciplinary action.

A fellow BJP worker, calling the video “shameful,” filed a formal complaint with the party leadership.
In his defense, Mr. Kashyap said the woman was feeling unwell and had asked for a place to rest. “She is an active party member. She called me, saying she felt dizzy and needed to lie down for a while. I brought her to the office,” he explained.

Addressing the viral footage, Kashyap said, “While climbing the stairs, she lost balance. I simply supported her. The video is being misrepresented to defame me.”
He added, “If helping a party worker is now a crime, I don’t know what else to say.”
