The latest release of Epstein investigation files has placed Bill Gates back under the spotlight, with unverified allegations emerging from private draft emails. Gates has dismissed the claims as baseless, while officials stress that names appearing in the files do not imply wrongdoing.

January 31, 2026: A newly released batch of documents from the Jeffrey Epstein investigation has reignited global controversy after containing sensational — but unverified — allegations involving Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates. The files include draft emails allegedly written by Epstein, claiming Gates contracted a sexually transmitted disease following sexual encounters with Russian women and later sought antibiotics to conceal the illness from his then-wife, Melinda Gates.
The claims are part of hundreds of thousands of documents made public on Friday by the US Department of Justice as part of a sweeping disclosure of investigative material related to the late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Gates has categorically denied the allegations, calling them “absurd, defamatory, and completely false.”
Unverified Claims Surface in Draft Emails
According to the released documents, the allegations appear in draft emails Epstein wrote to himself on July 18, 2013. In these emails — some written in the voice of Gates’s former adviser Boris Nikolic — Epstein claimed Gates had sexual encounters with “Russian girls,” contracted an STD, and sought antibiotics that could be “surreptitiously” given to Melinda Gates.
Epstein further alleged that Gates asked him to delete emails related to the incident and accused him of facilitating encounters that ranged from “morally inappropriate to ethically unsound.” None of these claims have been independently verified, and no evidence has been produced to support them.

Gates Issues Rare Public Rebuttal
In response to the explosive claims, Gates issued a rare and forceful denial.
“These claims are absolutely absurd and completely false,” a spokesperson for Gates told the Daily Mail. “The only thing these documents demonstrate is Epstein’s frustration that he did not have an ongoing relationship with Gates and the extreme lengths he would go to entrap and defame.”
Gates has previously acknowledged meeting Epstein several times but has consistently denied any improper relationship or involvement in criminal activities. He has also said he regrets his association with Epstein, describing it as a “mistake in judgment.”

Massive Document Dump by Justice Department
The Justice Department said it released more than three million pages of investigative material, along with over 2,000 videos and 180,000 images, following an extensive legal review process.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche stated that the disclosures were part of a broader effort to increase transparency in the long-running Epstein investigation.
Officials also clarified that being named or appearing in the documents does not imply wrongdoing, and that many references include hearsay, second-hand accounts, and unverified tips.
Emails Reveal Epstein’s Anger Toward Gates
The same set of draft emails reveals Epstein expressing deep resentment after Gates distanced himself from their association. Epstein wrote that he was “dismayed beyond comprehension” over Gates’s decision to sever ties following six years of contact.
The documents also contain previously unseen, undated photographs showing Epstein and Gates together at various locations. However, investigators stressed that the presence of photographs or correspondence alone does not establish misconduct.

Gates, Epstein, and Divorce Fallout
Gates has previously said he had no financial or business relationship with Epstein. Epstein died by suicide in a New York jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges.
Bill and Melinda Gates were married from 1994 to 2021. Following their divorce, Melinda Gates publicly acknowledged that her former husband’s extramarital affairs and his association with Epstein contributed to the breakdown of their marriage, though she did not provide specific details.
Other High-Profile Figures Named in Epstein Files
The newly released cache of documents also references several powerful and well-known individuals, including former US President Donald Trump, British billionaire Richard Branson, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, former British royal Prince Andrew, US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and Hollywood producer Steve Tisch. None of them have been formally accused of wrongdoing.
Donald Trump
The files contain an FBI-compiled list of sexual assault allegations linked to Trump, largely based on anonymous calls and unverified tips. Many of these claims were reported shortly before the 2020 US presidential election.
The Justice Department clarified that several of these allegations lacked credibility and were not substantiated.
“Some of the documents contain untrue and sensationalist claims against President Trump submitted right before the 2020 election,” the department stated. “To be clear, these claims are unfounded and false.”
Trump has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing related to Epstein.
Richard Branson
Emails show a friendly rapport between Epstein and the Virgin Group founder. In a September 2013 message, Branson wrote enthusiastically about meeting Epstein and invited him to visit again, referencing recreational activities and social gatherings.
Elon Musk
The files include multiple email exchanges between Epstein and Musk, including discussions about visiting Epstein’s private Caribbean island. In one message, Musk asked about “the wildest party” planned on the island.
Musk has previously stated he never visited Epstein’s island and had limited interactions with him.
Prince Andrew
One email exchange suggests that Prince Andrew invited Epstein to Buckingham Palace in 2010, discussing arrangements for private meetings and dinner. The disgraced royal has long faced scrutiny over his ties to Epstein and has denied allegations of sexual misconduct.
Justice Department Urges Caution
Authorities have emphasized that the files contain raw investigative material, including unverified tips, draft emails, hearsay, and personal correspondence.
The Justice Department warned that many claims remain unproven, urging the public and media to exercise caution and avoid drawing conclusions based solely on unverified allegations.
