Sushil Kumar Modi: A Stalwart in Bihar’s Politics

The late Sushil Kumar Modi, former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar and a towering figure in Indian politics, was conferred with the Padma Bhushan for his remarkable service in public affairs. A dedicated BJP leader, he played a crucial role in shaping Bihar’s economic and political landscape.

Modi was known for his strong advocacy for development policies and played a significant part in ushering in economic reforms in Bihar. As Finance Minister, he was instrumental in implementing GST at the state level and bringing financial discipline to Bihar’s governance. His leadership was characterized by administrative efficiency, financial prudence, and a deep commitment to public service.

A leader respected across party lines, Modi’s legacy continues to inspire the political fabric of Bihar. His contributions to state politics, especially in economic policy and governance, have now been recognized at the national level, cementing his place in India’s political history.

Sharda Sinha: Bihar’s Melodious Voice Honored

Equally remarkable is the honor bestowed upon the late folk singer Sharda Sinha, who was conferred with the Padma Vibhushan for her unparalleled contributions to Indian music and culture. Hailing from Bihar, she became a household name for her soulful renditions of Bhojpuri, Maithili, and Magahi folk songs.

For decades, Sinha’s voice echoed in celebrations of Chhath Puja, weddings, and festive gatherings, preserving and promoting Bihar’s rich cultural heritage. Her songs like *“Patna Ke Ghat Par”* and *“Ho Dinanath”* became synonymous with devotion and nostalgia for millions of Biharis, both in India and abroad.

Having previously received the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan, the posthumous Padma Vibhushan solidifies her status as one of the greatest torchbearers of Indian folk music. Her commitment to traditional music inspired generations, and she remains a cultural icon of Bihar.

A Dual Honor for Bihar

The recognition of both Sushil Modi and Sharda Sinha at the Padma Awards is a moment of immense pride for Bihar. Their legacy continues to shape the state’s cultural and political ethos.

While Sushil Modi steered Bihar towards governance reforms and financial stability, Sharda Sinha kept its folk traditions alive and thriving. Their contributions have not only brought national recognition to the state but also reinforced Bihar’s role in shaping India’s socio-political and cultural landscape.

As Bihar celebrates this honor, it stands as a reminder of the state’s rich heritage, both in governance and cultural traditions. The recognition of these two stalwarts ensures that their contributions will be remembered and cherished for generations to come.

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
