Patna experienced significant tension on Friday as thousands of Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) candidates persisted with their demonstration at Gandhi Maidan in Patna, calling for a re-evaluation of the 70th BPSC preliminary exams.
The protesters, determined to fulfill their request to see Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar regarding the deadlock, pushed past two barriers erected by the police close to JP Golambar. A small skirmish occurs between police and BPSC candidates at Gandhi Maidan in Patna.
The police carried out a gentle lathi charge to break up the gathering as the demonstrators tried to proceed towards Dak Bungalow along Fraser Road. A significant security presence, featuring barricades, was established near Hotel Maurya to manage the protestors.
The demonstrations, which have now attracted backing from activists, politicians, and educators, have been taking place in Patna since the preliminary exam was held on December 13.
Prashant Kishor, the leader of the Jan Suraaj Party, has shown his backing for the students who are protesting and has demanded an end to the ongoing corruption in Bihar’s examination system.

“I must admit that irregularities and document leaks have now become commonplace regarding BPSC exams.” It cannot continue in this manner… We need to seek a resolution. “For this reason, we have chosen to hold ‘Chatra Sansad’ (a gathering of students) close to Mahatma Gandhi’s statue at Gandhi Maidan in Patna,” Kishor mentioned while addressing the demonstrators on Saturday.
In response to Kishor’s request for Chatra Sansad, Patna District Magistrate (DM) Chandrasekhar Singh stated that the district administration will prohibit students from gathering at Gandhi Maidan since it is a restricted zone.
