The first Vande Bharat Express sleeper prototype is reportedly being produced at the BEML facility in Bengaluru, according to sources. The Rajdhani Express trains, now the highest caliber of overnight service on Indian Railways, will be surpassed in features by the self-propelled Vande Bharat sleeper train.
Earlier in the year, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw declared that preparations were underway to produce ten Vande Bharat sleeper train sets. In addition to the ten train sets that BEML will produce, further Vande Bharat sleeper projects are now being developed.
Vande Bharat sleeper trains, which have top speeds of 160 kmph and quicker acceleration and deceleration, are expected to drastically cut travel times on busy, high-density Indian Railways routes.
There will be 11 AC 3 tier coaches, 4 AC 2 tier coaches, and 1 AC first coach in the first prototype Vande Bharat sleeper train set.
Vaishnaw said, “It’s a historic moment for Indian Railways and for the country to launch the carbody structure of the much-awaited Vande Bharat sleeper version that will provide easy mobility to commuters and offer various comforts in the near future with global standards”.
