April 7, 2026: Nearly 91 lakh voters have been removed from the electoral rolls in West Bengal following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, according to data released by the Election Commission of India.
The poll body is yet to announce the final revised voter list after completion of the roll revision process.
As per official figures released on February 28, about 63.66 lakh names—roughly 8.3% of the electorate—were deleted since the revision began in November last year. This reduced the voter base from approximately 7.66 crore to just over 7.04 crore.
Of this, more than 60.06 lakh electors were placed under the “under adjudication” category and were initially included in the revised voter base. Following scrutiny by judicial officers, around 27.16 lakh of these names were removed.
However, over 32.68 lakh voters in the same category were retained and included in the updated rolls.
Overall, total deletions since the start of the SIR exercise have reached approximately 90.83 lakh, according to the latest Election Commission data.

The large-scale revision exercise is aimed at removing duplicate, shifted, or ineligible voters to ensure the integrity and accuracy of electoral rolls ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. Officials have maintained that due process was followed, including verification and opportunities for affected individuals to respond during the adjudication stage.
However, the scale of deletions has drawn political attention, with opposition parties raising concerns over possible disenfranchisement of genuine voters. The Election Commission is expected to address these concerns and release the final electoral roll soon, which will determine the eligible voter base for the upcoming polls.
