The attack on ASP Wangkhomba Okramcha occurred while he was patrolling along Tiddim Road (NH-150) near Nambol Thongkha. The road had been blockaded by bandh supporters using burning tyres and debris. As the ASP stepped out of his vehicle to negotiate with the protestors, the crowd turned violent.
The mob reportedly gheraoed the police team and began pelting stones and attacking them with crude weapons. The ASP and his escort suffered serious injuries, particularly to the head.
In the chaos, the ASP’s service pistol was dislodged and briefly went missing, raising alarm among the police. However, it was later recovered and returned by a local women’s group from Nambol, dispelling fears that it had been seized by attackers.
