Apple is once again preparing to make headlines this September with the launch of its much-anticipated iPhone 17 series. This year, the lineup will include four distinct models: the standard iPhone 17, a sleek new iPhone 17 Air, the iPhone 17 Pro, and the powerhouse iPhone 17 Pro Max. With notable changes in design, performance, and camera capabilities, Apple is expected to take a bold leap forward in 2025.
Launch Timeline
The iPhone 17 series is expected to be unveiled in the second week of September 2025, in line with Apple’s usual release cadence. Pre-orders in India are likely to open a few days after the global announcement, with official sales beginning by the end of the month.
Expected Pricing in India
iPhone 17: ₹89,900 (base variant)
iPhone 17 Air: ₹1,09,000 – ₹1,15,000
iPhone 17 Pro: ₹1,39,900
iPhone 17 Pro Max: ₹1,59,900 to ₹1,65,000
These prices may vary slightly based on storage configurations and regional taxes.
iPhone 17 Air: Apple’s Thinnest iPhone Yet
A new addition to the lineup, the iPhone 17 Air replaces the “Plus” model, offering a radically slim profile of just 5.5mm. Despite its featherlight 145g build, the device packs a 6.6-inch OLED display with ProMotion technology (120Hz refresh rate), promising smooth visuals and energy efficiency.
Under the hood, it’s powered by the upcoming A19 Bionic chip, and features a 48MP rear camera and a 24MP selfie shooter. However, the slim body comes at a cost — a relatively small 2800mAh battery, which might be a point of contention among heavy users.
iPhone 17: The New Core iPhone
The standard iPhone 17 will retain a familiar form factor but improve internally, sporting a 6.3-inch OLED ProMotion display, powered by the same A19 chip. Apple is rumored to bump RAM to 8GB or 12GB, with enhanced efficiency thanks to a more refined 3nm fabrication process.
On the camera front, users can expect a dual rear setup — a 48MP main sensor and a 12MP ultra-wide lens, complemented by a new 24MP front camera. Apple may also introduce Always-On Display features to non-Pro models for the first time.
Design & Build
Both the Pro and Pro Max models are expected to adopt a new rectangular camera layout, with a composite glass-and-aluminum rear panel. Apple may also slightly reduce bezel sizes to provide more screen real estate.
Performance
These models will run on the more powerful A19 Pro chipset, optimized for high-end performance, multitasking, and gaming. Both devices are also expected to ship with 12GB of RAM, improving overall fluidity and app retention.
Camera Features
The Pro lineup will shine in photography. Leaks suggest a triple-camera setup with:
A 48MP primary wide sensor
A 48MP ultra-wide sensor
A 48MP periscope telephoto lens with up to 10x optical zoom
For video and creators, expect new AI-powered stabilization, ProRes upgrades, and low-light photography enhancements.
Thermal & Display Upgrades
The Pro Max could also introduce a vapor chamber cooling system and enhanced heat dissipation, improving performance during long gaming sessions. A 6.9-inch Super Retina XDR display with 120Hz refresh rate is also expected.
A Unified Powerhouse: A19 Chips Across the Board
The entire iPhone 17 series will be powered by Apple’s latest A19 chip lineup, split into standard and Pro variants. Built on an improved 3nm process, these chips promise better battery life, increased processing speed, and improved AI/machine learning performance.
Apple is also expected to debut its own C1 cellular modem, enhancing connectivity and reducing reliance on third-party suppliers like Qualcomm.
Camera Across the Range
iPhone 17 Air: Single 48MP camera + 24MP front
iPhone 17: Dual 48MP wide + 12MP ultra-wide + 24MP front
iPhone 17 Pro & Pro Max: Triple 48MP setup including ultra-wide and periscope zoom
Night mode, cinematic video, and Smart HDR features are set to improve across all models, with Pro devices also supporting RAW and 8K video capture.
