Captain Rohit Sharma exhibited his candid nature while speaking to the media ahead of the second Test between India and Australia in Adelaide. Rohit made clear that he would relinquish his opening position while also sending a warning to Australia, avoiding any speculation as the important pink-ball Test begins on 6 December.
Rohit Sharma stated that the choice to let KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal keep opening the batting was challenging for him personally, but it became an obvious decision when focusing on the team’s requirements.
Rohit was absent from the initial Test of the eagerly awaited Border-Gavaskar Trophy to support his wife during the arrival of their second child. He returned to the team in the middle of the series opener in Perth. In his absence, KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal opened the batting and created a match-winning 201-run partnership for India in the second innings.
When KL Rahul addressed the media on Wednesday, he avoided disclosing much regarding the batting order but noted that the team management had communicated his role to him. Nevertheless, Rohit affirmed that he would bat “in the middle order” during the Adelaide Test.

“I decided to bat lower in the order because we seek results and success, and those two players at the top… just reflecting on this particular Test match, they played exceptionally well,” he stated.
“I was at home holding my newborn, and I was observing KL’s batting.” It was fantastic to observe. I thought there’s no reason to modify that at this time. Perhaps in the future, circumstances will change. I’m unsure.
