Mango known as the king of fruits has made its debut as #1 for the best mango dish known as “Aamras” from India, capturing the hearts of millions with its sweet mango pulp taste.Â
Mangoes are quite popular in India throughout the summer, and every household, no matter how small or large, looks for them to eat after lunch or dinner. The famous Aamras meal from Maharashtra has made it to the global list, and another mango dish, mango Chutney, has made it into the top five because of its deliciousness.

Aamras a famous dish in Gujarat and Maharashtra is a mildly sweetened mango pulp often paired with puris.

Taste Atlas characterises it as a basic yet versatile dish: “It is sometimes simply elevated with the addition of saffron, dry ginger, or cardamom, but its simplicity allows for variation and the creation of numerous varieties.”

The fifth-ranked delicacy, mango chutney, is made from ripe mangos. This savoury sauce contains a variety of spices, including ginger, garlic, red chilli peppers, cumin, coriander, turmeric, cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, brown sugar, and vinegar. Taste Atlas underlines the dish’s versatility: “There’s quite a few mango chutney variations made with different additional ingredients.”
In addition to its honours, mango chutney was recognised in Taste Atlas’s listing of the ’50 Best Dips in the World.’
The Recipe
Aamras Ingredients
- Mangoes – Choose ripe, sweet juicy less fibrous mangoes. Alphonso is the recommended variety for this recipe. However, you can use senthooram, Neelam, banganapalli varieties too.
- Sugar – You can use regular white sugar or cane sugar or even brown sugar. But cane sugar or brown sugar changes the colour.
- Flavourings – I have used saffron and cardamom.
- Garnish – You can either add chopped nuts or just few strands saffron for garnish as I have did.
