Actor and Congress candidate Raj Babbar is lagging by more over 60,000 votes in Gurugram. The BJP's Rao Inderjit Singh, the sitting MP from Gurugram, is leading.

Lok Sabha Election results: Congress candidate Raj Babbar trailing by over 60,000 votes in Gurugram

Actor and Congress candidate Raj Babbar is lagging by more over 60,000 votes in Gurugram. The BJP’s Rao Inderjit Singh, the sitting MP from Gurugram, is leading. Early polls showed Babbar, an actor-turned-politician, leading by a sizable majority in the seat.

Rao Inderjit Singh a veteran leader who has represented the Gurugram seat three times.

In Haryana, the Congress and BJP are locked in a close race, with each party ahead by 5 seats.

Kumari Selja, a Congress stalwart, led BJP competitor Ashok Tanwar by more over 1 lakh votes in the Sirsa seat.

In Rohtak, prominent Congress leader Deepender Singh Hooda led the BJP’s sitting MP Arvind Sharma by more than a lakh votes.

How Raj Babbar fared in previous general elections?

The actor-politician lost two consecutive elections in 2014 and 2019 to BJP General (Retired) VK Singh in Ghaziabad and Raj Kumar Chahar in Fatehpur Sikri, respectively.

In 2009, Mr Babbar defeated Samajwadi Party candidate Dimple Yadav, the wife of Akhilesh Yadav, by 85,000 votes in the Firozabad seat.

Mr Babbar, 71, an alumnus of National School of Drama, worked in films such as Nikaah, Insaaf Ka Tarazu, Kalyug and Umrao Jaan.
