Chief Minister of Delhi and convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Arvind Kejriwal, criticized the central government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday for enacting the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, claiming that this detracts from urgent economic problems.

Kejriwal’s Critique of BJP’s Policies

Kejriwal denounced the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in a video statement, calling it a dangerous move that could have disastrous effects on the nation, especially for states like Assam, and for what he perceived as the BJP’s opening of India to residents of Pakistan and Bangladesh under the CAA.

“The BJP has made India more welcoming to citizens of Bangladesh and Pakistan. The northeastern states, especially Assam, will bear the brunt of this country’s danger. The undocumented migrants from Bangladesh are a threat to Assamese culture. According to Kejriwal, the BJP desires to grant these undocumented immigrants citizenship.

Kejriwal’s Concerns over Government Funds for Resettling Pakistani Refugees

He voiced concerns about how government funds were being used to settle Pakistani refugees in India in accordance with the CAA. He asserted that millions of members of minority communities living in neighboring countries would have access to opportunities thanks to the legislation.

Under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, immigrants from six minority communities in Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Pakistan will be granted citizenship retroactively.

“The Pakistani people would be resettled in India with the help of government funds.” There are roughly 2.5 to 3 crore minorities in these three countries (Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan). Many people from these countries will travel to India once it opens its doors, according to Kejriwal.

Delhi Chief Minister Criticizes Timing of CAA Implementation

The chief minister of Delhi criticized the timing of the CAA’s implementation, saying that the BJP should have been focusing on showcasing its achievements instead of bringing up divisive issues like the citizenship law after ten years in power.

“They need to discuss CAA after ten years in power. Kejriwal stated, “If they had been doing good work for ten years, they would be asking for votes on their work instead of CAA.”

“Inflation and unemployment are currently the nation’s two main problems. The crippling inflation has made it harder to run a household. It is disheartening in this regard to witness the government discussing CAA rather than finding a solution to the problems of joblessness and inflation, he continued.

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
