New Delhi | November 6, 2025: The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) elections 2025 have delivered a resounding verdict in favor of the Left Unity, which swept all four central posts—President, Vice President, General Secretary, and Joint Secretary—reaffirming its dominance in the university’s fiercely contested political landscape.
Out of 9,043 eligible voters, an impressive 67% turnout was recorded, underscoring JNU’s enduring tradition of spirited student participation. The winning panel—Aditi Mishra (President), Kizhakoot Gopika Babu (Vice President), Sunil Yadav (General Secretary), and Danish Ali (Joint Secretary)—defeated their nearest rivals from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) by clear margins. Candidates from the NSUI, BAPSA, and several independent groups also contested but trailed far behind.

Aditi Mishra was elected JNUSU President with 1,861 votes, defeating ABVP’s Vikas Patel, who polled 1,447 votes—a margin of 414. Her victory marks a return of women’s leadership in JNU politics and reflects growing student confidence in the Left’s progressive platform.
Vice Presidential candidate Kizhakoot Gopika Babu secured the highest margin of the election, winning by a sweeping 1,236 votes. She garnered 2,966 votes against Tanya Kumari (ABVP) with 1,730. “This mandate is not just for the Left—it’s for freedom, equality, and dialogue,” Gopika said after the results were declared.
The contest for General Secretary was among the tightest of the night. Sunil Yadav (Left Unity) won with 1,915 votes, edging past ABVP’s Rajeshwar Kant Dubey by just 74 votes. “We may have won narrowly, but our agenda will be broad—student rights, academic autonomy, and inclusivity,” Yadav told reporters.
In the final post to be declared, Danish Ali completed the Left’s sweep by winning the Joint Secretary position with 1,991 votes, defeating Anuj Damara (ABVP), who polled 1,762 votes—a margin of 229.

Campus Mood: Clear Mandate for Progressive Leadership
Throughout the evening, the counting hall erupted in slogans and cheers as trends consistently favored the Left Unity panel. By 11 PM, it was clear the Left had reclaimed its hold over JNU, continuing its decades-long dominance punctuated only by brief ABVP gains in recent years.
Observers described the outcome as a “campus consensus” on protecting JNU’s democratic and secular ethos. Students cited issues such as hostel fee hikes, academic freedom, and gender justice as key drivers of their votes.
