Addressing the RSS centenary, Modi calls for vigilance against ‘conspiracies’ undermining India’s diversity and national cohesion.

New Delhi, October 1, 2025 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday issued a stark warning: demographic changes now pose a greater threat to India’s social equality and national unity than traditional challenges such as infiltration or external forces. The PM was addressing the centenary celebrations of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in New Delhi today,

Framing these shifts as part of a deliberate “conspiracy” tied to internal security, Modi called for vigilance to protect India’s “unity in diversity” while unveiling a commemorative coin and stamp honoring the RSS’s legacy.

Speaking to a packed audience of RSS swayamsevaks and dignitaries, Modi emphasized that India’s strength lies in its unity despite diverse castes, languages, and regions. He cautioned that this foundational principle is under siege from “extremist thinking, regionalism, disputes over caste and language, and divisions instigated by external forces.” Most strikingly, he singled out demographic changes as a challenge surpassing even infiltration, linking it directly to social equality and future peace.

“Social equality means establishing justice by prioritizing the deprived and promoting national unity,” Modi said. “Today, crises are emerging that attack our unity, culture, and security. Demographic change is a greater challenge than even infiltration. It’s an issue of internal security and future peace.” He referenced his announcement of a Demographic Mission during his Independence Day speech from the Red Fort, urging the nation to confront the issue with “dedication and vigilance.”

While Modi did not specify exact demographic trends, his remarks echo ongoing political discourse about population imbalances, particularly in border states, often linked to migration and differing birth rates among communities. His use of the term “conspiracy” to describe both demographic shifts and economic dependence on foreign nations added a provocative edge, suggesting orchestrated efforts to undermine India’s cohesion.

A Nation Under Strain: Unity in Diversity at Risk

Modi underscored that India’s strength depends on upholding “unity in diversity,” warning that any fracture would weaken the nation. “If this soul is broken, the nation’s strength will also be weakened,” he said, calling for continuous efforts to reinforce social equality and national unity. He described threats ranging from caste disputes, linguistic divides, regionalism, to extremist ideologies as “countless challenges” requiring collective resolve.

The Prime Minister also highlighted economic dependence as another “conspiracy” aimed at fracturing India’s unity. “Economic dependence on other countries is a plot to break our unity,” he warned, framing self-reliance as a critical defense against external manipulation. He expressed confidence in his government’s response, stating, “I am very satisfied that these challenges and struggles are being dealt with swiftly.”

Celebrating RSS Legacy with Coin and Stamp

The occasion also paid tribute to the RSS, founded in 1925, which Modi praised for its contributions to nation-building. He released a Rs 100 commemorative coin and a special postal stamp to mark the organization’s centenary. The coin, a first in independent India, features the National Emblem on one side and an image of Bharat Mata seated on a lion, with RSS swayamsevaks bowing before her, on the other. The stamp depicts RSS volunteers marching in the 1963 Republic Day Parade, highlighting the organization’s historical prominence.

“These symbols reflect the RSS’s unwavering commitment to the nation,” Modi said, lauding the group’s role in fostering unity and cultural pride. The releases w

ere met with applause from attendees, including RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and other senior leaders.

A Call to Action Amid Political Heat

Modi’s speech comes amid heightened political tension, with upcoming elections in several states and ongoing debates over illegal migration and population control. His focus on demographic changes is likely to spark controversy, with opposition parties accusing the BJP of polarizing voters. Critics may seize on the “conspiracy” rhetoric as an attempt to rally the ruling party’s base, while supporters see it as a bold acknowledgment of existential threats.

As India navigates these turbulent waters, Modi’s address sets the stage for a national conversation on unity, security, and identity. With the Demographic Mission now in the spotlight, the government faces pressure to clarify its strategy and the evidence behind the alleged threats. For now, the Prime Minister’s message is clear: India’s unity is non-negotiable, and the fight to preserve it has just begun.

Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
