On Wednesday, the Supreme Court declined to stop the release of the film ‘Udaipur Files’, which is based on the murder case of tailor Kanhaiya Lal from Rajasthan, and rejected an urgent request for listing from one of the accused.

The request was submitted by Mohammed Javed, one of the individuals charged in the vicious killing of tailor Kanhaiya Lal. A vacation bench comprising Justices Sudhanshu Dhulia and Joymalya Bagchi stated that the petition may be presented before the relevant bench when the Supreme Court resumes after the summer break on 14th July.

When the defense attorney informed the court that the film, scheduled for release on 11th July, would premiere before the court reconvenes, the court said that let the film be released. “It is releasing on Friday Trailer was released on July 4. They are showing only the prosecution side,” the counsel for the accused said, to which the top court replied, “Mention before the court concerned on reopening. Let it be released”.

Counsel for Mohammad Javed, accused number 8 in Kanhaiya Lal’s murder case, argued in court that the film is depicted as a real story and thus will bias the proceedings in the case.

Kanhaiya Lal Murder Case

Kanhaiya Lal, a tailor from Udaipur, was beheaded by two individuals for supposedly posting on social media in favor of BJP leader Nupur Sharma, who had made contentious remarks about the Prophet. Mohammad Riyaz and Mohammad Ghous are the main suspects in the case.

In the wake of widespread anger regarding the incident, the inquiry was handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The case trial is occurring at a designated NIA court in Jaipur.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
