The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has busted a major extortion network associated with Khalistani figures and apprehended eight shooters from the Gurjant Singh alias Junta gang. The police report that these gunmen act under the direction of their controllers located in Canada, executing shootings and giving threats as instructed.

Additional Commissioner of Police Sanjay Sen noted that recently, gunmen arrived on a motorcycle and fired shots outside a businessman’s residence in Anand Vihar. Shortly thereafter, a call demanding Rs 5 crore arrived from a number based in the UK. The businessman had security protection during the incident, and security staff were inside the house.

To apprehend the offenders, Sen assembled a team of 10 members. The team examined recordings from approximately 200 CCTV cameras in the vicinity and tracked the motorcycle involved in the incident.

While investigating, authorities discovered that Gurjant Singh, also known as Junta Lahoria, was responsible for the shooting. Gurjant, presently overseas, is managing his gang remotely. He is the sibling of infamous criminal Jaspreet Jassi. Jaspreet and his partner Bhullar were shot dead in a confrontation in Kolkata in 2021 by the Punjab Police and the West Bengal STF.

Following their death, Gurjant assumed control of the gang’s activities. He relocated to Australia and subsequently to Canada, from which he still conducts his operations. Reports indicate he has partnered with Khalistani factions in Canada and is reportedly close to Arsh Dalla of the Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF). Dalla took over as leader of KTF following the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

As per Delhi Police, Gurjant originally aimed at entrepreneurs in Punjab but has now redirected his attention to Delhi. He has formed a committed extortion group that is unafraid to shoot outside the homes of victims to instill fear.

The authorities recovered five handguns and 70 live bullets from the suspect.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
