Batting star Virat Kohli has looked in magnificent touch ever since he has arrived in the IPL 2025. The batting icon has been among runs and has scored over 350 runs in the current IPL season.
Kohli surpasses Chris Gayle’s record of 110 fifty-plus scores
During the ninth match of the current IPL season on Thursday, April 24, facing Rajasthan Royals at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Kohli made history by surpassing Chris Gayle’s record of 110 fifty-plus scores in T20s.
Over his 17-year long T20 career, Gayle participated in 463 matches for over twelve teams and achieved 110 scores of fifty or more. Conversely, the half-century in the current match against RR marks Kohli’s 111th score of fifty or more in the game’s shortest format.
David Warner occupies the top spot
Virat Kohli is just behind former Australian opener David Warner who tops the charts with 117 fifty plus scores. Until now, Virat Kohli has smashed 9 hundreds and 102 fifties in T20 cricket.
Kohli, awarded the Player of the Match for his unbeaten 73 in the previous game against Punjab Kings in Mullanpur on April 20, reached the 50-run milestone with a four on the fourth delivery of the 12th over of RCB’s innings delivered by Sandeep Sharma. He required 32 balls to achieve his initial fifty of the current IPL 2025 season in Bengaluru.
Earlier in the initial part of his innings, he also reached 3500 T20 runs at M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Kohli, the all-time top run scorer in IPL history, has been with RCB in the IPL since its inaugural season. He is the only cricketer globally to have participated in all 18 editions of the IPL with the same team.
During RCB’s last encounter against PBKS, he surpassed David Warner’s record for the highest number of 50+ scores in the IPL. Kohli, participating in his 260th IPL match on Thursday, boasts 68 fifty-plus scores, while Warner concluded his career with 66 fifty-plus scores in 184 matches for Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
