A day after the shocking murder of retired Karnataka Director General of Police (DGP) Om Prakash, disturbing new details have emerged about the events leading up to his death. Police sources now allege that his wife, Pallavi, not only stabbed him multiple times during a heated argument but also incapacitated him beforehand by throwing chilli powder in his eyes and tying him up. The 68-year-old was also reportedly attacked with a glass bottle before succumbing to his injuries.

The fatal incident took place at the couple’s Bengaluru home on Sunday afternoon, following a dispute allegedly over a property Om Prakash had transferred to a relative. According to investigators, the quarrel escalated dramatically when Pallavi, in a fit of rage, assaulted the retired officer using household items and a knife, leading to his death. Multiple stab wounds were found on his chest and abdomen.
Following the killing, Pallavi reportedly called the wife of a serving police officer and confessed to the crime. The woman alerted her husband, who immediately informed the police. Officers arrived at the scene around 4 a.m. on Monday to find Om Prakash dead. Pallavi and the couple’s daughter were both taken into custody and have since been questioned for over 12 hours.

Investigators are currently trying to determine whether the daughter played any role in the crime or was simply a witness. Police have registered a case based on a complaint filed by Om Prakash’s son.

Senior police officers say the murder appears to have stemmed from an ongoing family dispute. Pallavi is now the prime suspect, with investigators describing the act as both premeditated and violent.
Om Prakash, an IPS officer from the 1981 batch, served as Karnataka’s DGP from March 2015. He had earlier led the Fire and Emergency Services and Home Guards. Originally from Bihar, he held a Master’s degree in Geology and had earned respect throughout his career for his discipline and integrity.
Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara, reacting to the latest revelations, said, “Preliminary information points to the wife’s involvement, but we must allow the investigation to run its course. He was a good officer, and a good man. This is tragic and unexpected. The truth will come out.”
