Teacher in Bengaluru held for blackmailing student’s father over affair

Sridevi Rudagi (25) along with two accomplices – Ganesh Kale, 38, and Sagar, 28 – were detained for reportedly extorting Rs 4 lakh from the father of a student and subsequently blackmailing him using photos and videos of their interactions.

A teacher in Bengaluru was detained for reportedly blackmailing and extorting funds from a student’s parent with whom she was involved in an affair.

Sridevi Rudagi (25) along with two accomplices – Ganesh Kale, 38, and Sagar, 28 – were detained for reportedly extorting Rs 4 lakh from the father of a student and subsequently blackmailing him using photos and videos of their interactions.

The victim was a merchant who resided with his spouse and three daughters. In 2023, during the admission process, he enrolled his five-year-old in the school when he met Sridevi Rudagi. He mentioned that she stayed in contact and they started sending him messages and having video calls with him too.

When their encounters became intimate, Sridevi Rudagi exploited them to extract Rs 4 lakh from him. Later, in January, she requested Rs 15 lakh.

The victim subsequently chose to move his family to Gujarat, for which he required the child’s Transfer Certificate.

When he arrived to retrieve it, the three suspects cornered him and displayed private photos and videos. The defendant subsequently requested Rs 20 lakh from him.

He then transferred Rs 1.9 lakh but the demands continued. When Sridevi Rudagi kept pestering him for more money, the victim called the police.

The accused have been sent to judicial custody for 14 days.
