Mallikarjun Kharge, the head of the Congress, has been selected to lead the opposition coalition INDIA after lengthy talks, according to sources. India bloc has not yet released a formal statement. Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar, was another candidate for the position, but he stated in today’s meeting that the Congressman ought to take the lead.

According to sources, when the idea of appointing Mr. Kumar as the alliance’s convenor was brought up, the recently elected head of the Janata Dal (United) stated he had little interest in the position and no desire for it. However, no one challenged his identity, and Mr. Kharge said he would talk to Akhilesh Yadav of the Samajwadi Party and Mamata Banerjee of the Trinamool Congress about the matter.
The convenor holds a distinct position within the alliance, ranking slightly beneath the chairperson, according to the sources.
A coalition of opposition parties, including the Congress, is known as INDIA, or the “Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance.” In order to stop the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), from gaining a third consecutive term at the Centre in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the parties have united.
All parties, with the exception of the Samajwadi Party and the Trinamool Congress, sent members to today’s conference.
