Four police commandos and one jawan of the Border Security Force (BSF) were injured on Tuesday in an ambush attack by militants in Manipur’s Moreh town in fresh violence in the northeastern state. This incident occurred the day after gunfire between residents of the Thoubal district’s Lilong region and unidentified armed miscreants resulted in the deaths of four civilians.

When the police commandos were traveling to Moreh, which is close to the Myanmar border, gunmen targeted their vehicles. Sources claim that during a search operation by the security forces, militants fired shots at state commandos’ RPGs.

The wounded security officials have been admitted to the Assam Rifles Hospital.

Lately, Manipur has been dealing with fresh violent situations. The state administration has reinstated curfew in the Thoubal and Imphal West districts following the incident on Monday that claimed the lives of four citizens. The bodies of four individuals have not yet been found.

In a video message later, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, requested the residents of Lilong to not “cause any more violence” and maintain peace and tranquillity in the region. He also warned of stringent action against the culprits in the killing of the four civilians.

Since May 3, there have been over 100 fatalities from ethnic confrontations. According to an India Today NE desk article, official estimates indicate that approximately 60,000 people have been displaced, but unofficial figures suggest that the number may be significantly higher.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
