India’s Test and ODI captain Rohit Sharma engaged in a lengthy discussion with senior officials from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and chief selector Ajit Agarkar during a review meeting conducted on Saturday.

India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir attended the meeting, where the BCCI leadership sought feedback from the Indian team management regarding the recent poor performances, notably the 1-3 Border-Gavaskar series loss to Australia and the 0-3 home defeat to New Zealand.

During the meeting, it was noted that Rohit conveyed his desire to continue as the team’s captain for few more ‘months’.

Doubts regarding Rohit’s long-term Test prospects grew during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, especially due to his batting performance. Rohit even chose to sit out the final match in Sydney, even though India lost that game as well.

In the meeting with BCCI, where Agarkar and Gambhir shared their opinions, Rohit reportedly informed the board that he wishes to continue as the team’s captain for few more months. Rohit has requested the BCCI to continue looking for a new captain.

As reported by Dainik Jagran, the discussion included suggesting Bumrah as Rohit’s future successor, though some still have doubts regarding his suitability. The specific concern raised regarding Bumrah’s situation was his capacity to captain the team in a 5-match Test series.

Bumrah participated in India’s tour of Australia, playing in all 5 Tests and captaining the team in two of those matches. Nevertheless, he suffered a back injury during the last Test in Sydney and didn’t bowl at all in the second innings.

These fitness concerns regarding the nation’s prominent pacer are likely to make the senior officials question his prospects as a long-term captain.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
