Pope Francis announces Consistory for creation of 21 new Cardinals will be held in the Vatican on 8 December

Pope Francis gives the traditional noon blessing in St Peter’s Square

Pope Francis revealed during his Sunday Angelus that there will be a Consistory for appointing new Cardinals on 8 December 2024, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, at the Vatican.

The Consistory, gathering participants from all over the world, will occur prior to the start of the 2025 Jubilee of Hope and following the Second Session of the Synod on Synodality at the Vatican. Pope Francis recently held a consistory to appoint new Cardinals before the First Session of the Synod on Synodality on 30 September 2023.

The Pope mentioned that the Cardinal-designates come from different parts of the globe.

21 new cardinals will be eligible to select Pope Francis’ replacement

Francis, aged 87, revealed the unexpected news while discussing the escalating tensions in the Middle East and commemorating the October 7 assaults on Israel.

Throughout his pontificate as Pope, Francis has revamped the makeup of the group responsible for choosing his replacement, ensuring it reflects the diversity of the global church. He has discarded the traditional, unspoken practice of appointing bishops from specific dioceses in Italy as cardinals, and has opted to bestow “red hats” on the outskirts instead.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
