Maharashtra govt approves renaming of Pune airport to ‘Jagadguru Sant Tukaram Maharaj Airport’

The renaming of Pune airport to ‘Tukaram Maharaj Airport’ was officially approved by the Maharashtra government on Monday as a tribute to the respected 17th-century saint. The choice was determined in a cabinet meeting that took place today.

This move is a way to honor Sant Tukaram Maharaj, a significant spiritual leader in Maharashtra’s past, recognized for his religious poems and impact on the Bhakti movement.

Nitin Gadkari, the Minister for Road Transport and Highways, recently suggested changing the name of Pune airport and mentioned that he plans to ask for permission from the central government.

Civil Aviation Minister thanked Mahayuti government for the move

Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol announced on X that the initial action to rename Pune’s international airport as ‘Jagadguru Santshrestha Tukaram Maharaj Pune International Airport’ has been initiated today and our proposal has been sanctioned by the state government.

Mohol thanked the Mahayuti government, consisting of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). He wrote, “Thank you, Mahayuti government! Thank you, Devendraji! The first step towards naming of the international airport in Pune as ‘Jagadguru Sant Tukaram Maharaj Airport’ has been taken today and the proposal given by me has been approved at a cabinet meeting. It will now be sent to the central government for further processing.”

The suggestion will be forwarded to the central government and cabinet for a final decision on changing the airport’s name.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
