Officials reported a clash between security forces and militants in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district on Wednesday. The encounter is currently taking place in the Basantgarh region.

Terrorists opened fire as security forces surrounded the Basantgarh area

Officials reported a clash between security forces and militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district on Wednesday. The encounter is currently taking place in the Basantgarh region.

After being informed about the terrorists’ presence, paramilitary troops and police personnel arrived at Basantgarh and surrounded the area.

Security forces retaliated after terrorists fired on personnel, officials said, and reinforcements were quickly sent to the area.

Three to four terrorists hidden in the area

Based on available information, it is estimated that there are three to four terrorists.

The confrontation occurred a few hours later when a BSF trooper was wounded due to unprovoked firing by Pakistan Rangers along the LoC in Jammu’s Akhnoor sector.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or injuries due to the breach of the ceasefire.

J&K Assembly Elections to start from September 18

Jammu and Kashmir is experiencing occasional outbursts of violence before the upcoming Assembly elections, the first of its kind in the union territory in a decade.

The three-phase elections will commence on September 18, followed by the second and third phases on September 25 and October 1, respectively.

The votes will be counted and the results will be announced on October 8.
