The AAP’s Mohinder Bhagat won the byelection in Punjab’s Jalandhar West assembly segment by more than 30,000 votes.

Other important constituencies

In West Bengal, the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress won the Raiganj bypoll and is now leading in the remaining three seats.

In Uttarakhand, the Manglaur constituency is experiencing a three-cornered contest in the byelection, which was held following the death of BSP MLA Sarwat Karim Ansari in October last year. The BJP is currently lagging in Manglaur, a Muslim and Dalit-dominated constituency previously held by either the Congress or the BSP. The ruling party is also behind in Badrinath.

It’s a triangular race, with Anniyur Siva (also known as Sivashanmugam A) of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leading Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) candidate C Anbumani and K Abinaya of Naam Tamilar Katchi.

These byelections were the first since the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, when the BJP won 240 seats, 32 shy of a majority. The NDA, on the other hand, crossed the halfway point of 272 seats, for a total of 293 seats. The Congress-led INDIA group won 232 seats.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
