Skillhub Online Games Federation (SOGF) has announced the appointment of Satpal Singh, a legendary figure in Indian wrestling, as its Vice President. Known affectionately as Guru Satpal, he brings a wealth of experience and a sterling reputation in sports to his new role, marking a significant milestone for the federation.

Satpal Singh’s illustrious career spans decades of dedication to Indian wrestling. His journey began as a wrestler himself, achieving notable milestones i.e Bronze Medal in the 1974 Asian Games and a Gold Medal in the 1982 Asian Games. His participation in the Summer Olympics of 1980 solidified his place in Indian sports history, where he not only competed but also laid the foundation for a remarkable coaching career.

Legendary Coaching Legacy of Guru Satpal Singh

Guru Satpal’s coaching prowess is legendary. He is widely credited for shaping the careers of multiple wrestling champions, including Sushil Kumar, the first Indian athlete to win two individual Olympic medals (bronze in Beijing 2008 and silver in London 2012). Under Satpal’s guidance, Kumar emerged as a global wrestling icon, inspiring a generation of athletes in India. Satpal’s mentorship extended to other Olympic medalists such as Yogeshwar Dutt (bronze in Beijing 2008) and Ravi Kumar Dahiya (silver in Tokyo 2020), underscoring his profound influence on Indian wrestling’s success on the international stage.

Awards and Accolades

For his outstanding contribution to wrestling, Satpal Singh was awarded the Padma Bhushan (India’s third highest civilian award) in 2015, the Padma Shri in 1983, the Dronacharya Award in 2009 and the Arjuna Award in 1974. He was also awarded the Power Corridors Indian Achievers Award for his achievements in the field of wrestling.
