Pune Porsche Crash: Accused teenager submits 300-word essay on road safety

The 17-year-old teenager involved in the deadly Pune Porsche crash that killed two technicians has submitted a 300-word essay on road safety to the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), in accordance with his release conditions, an official said on Friday.

He submitted the essay to the JJB on Wednesday, the official said news agency PTI.

What has happened in the case so far?

The teen was previously released from an observation home after the Bombay High Court declared his confinement unconstitutional. Initially, following the May 19 accident in Kalyani Nagar, the JJB placed him in the custody of his parents and assigned the essay as part of his release.

Police allege the kid was driving a Porsche under the influence of alcohol when he crashed with a two-wheeler, killing the two software workers. A public outcry ensued over his apparent generous bail conditions, prompting the police to request a change from the JJB. On May 22, the board sent him to an observation home.

However, the High Court finally ruled that his detention was unconstitutional and emphasized the importance of properly enforcing juvenile justice rules, resulting in his release.

Meanwhile, on July 2, a Pune court granted bail to the juvenile’s father and grandparents, who were accused of kidnapping and illegally confining their family driver, compelling him to accept blame for the crash.

Vishal Agarwal, the boy’s father and grandpa, were arrested in May and are still in judicial custody. Agarwal, who was arrested in a different cheating case, is still in jail, while the grandfather has been released.

According to authorities, the teen’s father and grandpa allegedly kidnapped their family driver hours after the disaster, wrongfully confined him to their bungalow, and attempted to force him to admit that he, not the juvenile, was driving when the accident occurred.

Following the collision, several attempts were made to cover up the occurrence in order to save the underage kid, including switching blood samples at the hospital where he was sent for a sobriety test. The accident and subsequent interference by his influential family sparked a nationwide outcry, with people demanding justice for the victims.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
