Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren submits resignation to Governor CP Radhakrishnan
Champai Soren, Chief Minister of Jharkhand, presented his resignation to Governor CP Radhakrishnan on Wednesday at Raj Bhavan, opening the way for Hemant Soren to take over as chief minister. Hemant Soren is preparing to return as Chief Minister of Jharkhand for the third time.
The change of guard in Jharkhand was determined after the INDIA alliance MLAs and leaders reached an agreement on the Chief Minister’s replacement earlier in the day.
During a meeting at Champai Soren’s Ranchi residence, alliance leaders and MLAs overwhelmingly elected Hemant Soren as JMM legislature party leader.
Champai Soren, a close associate of the Soren family, entered office as Jharkhand Chief Minister five months ago, after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Hemant Soren in connection with an alleged money laundering case tied to a land grab.
Hemant Soren remained in the Birsa Munda Central Jail for five months before being granted bail by the Jharkhand High Court on June 28.
