It was Date’s bravery and understanding in difficult circumstances, due to which the hostages captured by Abu Ismail and Ajmal Kasab could be rescued. Then Kasab was arrested as the only surviving terrorist.
Ultimately, due to Date’s bravery and wisdom, the hostages, who were being taken by the terrorists to be used as shields, were saved. The senior police officer was later awarded the President’s Police Medal for gallantry.

It is to be noted that Sadanand Vasant, the current chief of Maharashtra ATS (until his appointment as DG of NIA), has also worked as DIG in the Central Bureau of Investigation and IG (Ops) in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
