Paris:
The nominees for the 2025 Men’s Ballon d’Or have been announced, with Paris Saint-Germain star Ousmane Dembélé and Barcelona’s teenage sensation Lamine Yamal among the frontrunners.
Dembélé was instrumental in PSG’s historic UEFA Champions League triumph last season the first in the club’s history while 18-year-old Yamal has dazzled for both Barcelona and Spain, earning comparisons to Lionel Messi.
Notably, last year’s winner Rodri misses out after a serious knee injury in September sidelined him until the penultimate match of Manchester City’s Premier League campaign.
PSG Dominance, Premier League Depth
Dembélé is one of nine PSG players on the shortlist, alongside names like Désiré Doué, Achraf Hakimi, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Despite PSG’s strong presence, the Premier League leads in overall representation, with stars such as Cole Palmer, Mohamed Salah, and Declan Rice among the nominees.
Two players earned their place on the list after big summer moves to England Viktor Gyökeres joining Arsenal and Florian Wirtz signing for Liverpool.
LaLiga boasts eight nominees, including Real Madrid duo Jude Bellingham and Vinícius Júnior. Former Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay also features after guiding Napoli to the Serie A title.
