It’s couldn’t have been a better debut for the young 14-year-old Rajasthan Royals player Vaibhav Suryavanshi as he smashed a first ball six off all-rounder Shardul Thakur. The teenager, who became the youngest player to debut in the league connected the first ball perfectly and deposited into the stands to a large roar from the crowd.
The teenager is playing in this match solely because RR captain Sanju Samson suffered an injury and had to retire hurt in the last game against Delhi Capitals. Until now, the franchise has put all their focus on safeguarding him.
However, when presented with the chance to shine as the key player in the second innings, he quickly stood up to the occasion. The response from the commentators regarding that six speaks volumes as well.
The young Vaibhav didn’t stop there. In the following over, he hit the first delivery he faced from Avesh Khan for a six as well. This time, the full ball was pitched on the middle and off, and the left-handed batsman slammed it directly over the bowler’s head.
The teenager had a bit of luck too. He got a leading edge that went down, a top-edge on the pull that Abdul Samad put down (which went for four) and a few others fell into vacant areas. The youngster was finally dismissed in the ninth over by part-time spinner Aiden Markram, who outsmarted him with his flight before Rishabh Pant easily removed the bails. He was dismissed for 34 runs off 20 balls.
