New Delhi:
Mohit Suri’s romantic drama Saiyaara has taken the box office by storm, defying recent trends where even big-ticket sequels have struggled to perform. Led by newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, the film has not only drawn audiences back to theatres but also set new records for the Hindi romantic genre.
However, with the Independence Day release of two highly anticipated films War 2 and Coolie industry watchers are questioning whether Saiyaara’s dream run is about to face its toughest challenge yet.
Box Office Performance So Far
In 26 days, Saiyaara has amassed Rs.321.35 crore domestically and crossed the Rs.500 crore mark worldwide. Its first week saw a staggering Rs.172 crore collection, followed by Rs.107.75 crore in week two and Rs.28.25 crore in week three.
But its momentum has already been dented by the surprise success of Mahavatar Narsimha, an animated mythological action film by Ashwin Kumar. Released a week after Saiyaara, it collected Rs.44.75 crore in week one, Rs.73.4 crore in week two, and now stands at Rs.174.9 crore after its third Monday.

Trade Experts on the Road Ahead
Speaking to NDTV, trade analyst Komal Nahta said,
“It’s been already [impacted]. With Coolie and War 2 releasing, Saiyaara will now be the fourth choice. Don’t forget Mahavatar Narsimha has been doing well at the box office.”
Echoing this, Taran Adarsh noted:
“Mahavatar Narsimha has already impacted Saiyaara. I feel it will continue to run in theatres, but Coolie and War 2 will dominate the box office.”
The Saiyaara Phenomenon
A combination of strategic release timing, strong promotions, and positive word-of-mouth helped Saiyaara achieve an unprecedented milestone as the highest-grossing Hindi romantic film in history. Its dominance even forced other releases to shift dates Ajay Devgn’s Son of Sardaar 2 and Sidharth Malhotra–Janhvi Kapoor’s Param Sundari both delayed their releases to avoid a clash.
The film has also outperformed several recent big-star projects, surpassing collections of Housefull 5 (Rs.183 crore), Raid 2 (Rs.173 crore), and Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par (Rs.163 crore).
