Who is C Vijayakumar?

C Vijayakumar is the CEO and Managing Director of HCLTech, one of India’s largest IT services companies. Often referred to as “CVK,” he joined HCL in 1994 and steadily climbed the ranks, eventually becoming CEO in October 2016.

Under his leadership, HCLTech expanded globally, diversified its service portfolio, and consistently delivered strong revenue and profit growth.

A mechanical engineer by training, Vijayakumar is known for his deep operational expertise and strategic focus on digital transformation, cloud services, and next-gen technologies. His leadership has been instrumental in growing HCLTech’s market cap nearly fourfold, making him a standout figure in the global tech landscape.

  • TCS (K. Krithivasan): ₹26.52 crore (USD 3.0 million)

  • Infosys (Salil Parekh): ₹80.62 crore (USD 6.8 million)

  • Wipro (Srinivas Pallia): ~₹53.6 crore (USD 6.2 million)

What’s next?

The board has approved a ~71% increase in his total package for fiscal year 2025‑26 (April 1, 2025 – March 31, 2026), raising it to USD 18.6 million (~₹154 crore).

Under Vijayakumar’s leadership from March 2016 to March 2025, HCLTech’s market capitalization grew nearly 3.8×—from ₹1.15 lakh crore to ₹4.32 lakh crore—outpacing industry peers whose valuations grew about 2.5× in the same span.
