In a chilling disclosure during his police questioning, serial killer Ram Saroop, alias Sodhi, confessed that profound emotional pain and insulting remarks about his sexuality fueled his gruesome acts.

The 33-year-old individual, who mainly worked on roads in Punjab, admitted that he could not tolerate insults regarding his physique and identity, and his most recent killing was directly associated with those comments. Sodhi, who disguised himself as a woman to attract his targets, asserted that his emotional turmoil drove him to seek vengeance, resulting in the killings of at least 11 men in the last 18 months.

Throughout the inquiry, Sodhi disclosed that his feelings of betrayal and rage were so strong that he frequently targeted men who disrespected him or declined to compensate for the sexual services he had offered.

In a notably brutal occurrence, Sodhi detailed that his final victim, Maninder Singh, 37, ridiculed his sexuality and uttered offensive remarks regarding his body.

Sodhi states that the victim’s remarks acted as a trigger, prompting him to kill Maninder during what appeared to be an innocent ride on his motorbike.

Later, Maninder’s body was discovered near Kiratpur Sahib, where police found an important clue at the crime scene – Sodhi’s muffler, which he had forgotten. This particular evidence ultimately resulted in his apprehension.

Was obsessed with dressing as a woman in childhood

Sodhi, who resorted to criminal activities due to a difficult childhood, admitted that his fascination with dressing as a female began during his youth when he would secretly put on makeup and women’s clothing while his parents were away.

His sexual identity started to develop after he relocated to Dubai in 2005, and by age 22, he had accepted his homosexuality.

Yet, the rejections and insults he encountered from certain victims appeared to have profoundly impacted his mental state, driving him to engage in violent acts.

Sodhi’s murders were not merely random acts of violence. He specifically focused on men who either turned him down or didn’t fulfill his expectations following sexual encounters.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
