Uttarakhand is poised to make history today by becoming the first state to enforce the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). The significant legislation will be launched at approximately 12:30 pm, just before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trip to the state.
Government representatives announced that the UCC will be enforced across Uttarakhand and will also apply to residents of the state residing elsewhere.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami will preside over the event where the UCC portal will be launched at the state secretariat. On Sunday, Dhami remarked that the UCC would lay the groundwork for a peaceful society, devoid of bias based on religion, gender, caste, or community.
“We are fulfilling our commitments. The abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir was an instance of it. The Indian republic stands firmly today under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he was quoted as saying by news agency PTI in its report.
Last month, Dhami announced that the UCC would be put into effect in Uttarakhand in January 2025.
The progression occurred just days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared in the Lok Sabha that the government was dedicated to executing the UCC, stating it was “operating with full vigor for a secular civil code.”

Dhami stated that the state government had finished its “homework” and that all preparations were ready for the rollout of UCC throughout the state starting January 2025.
“Guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we pledged to the state’s residents regarding the implementation of the UCC ahead of the 2022 assembly elections.” We prioritized it immediately after establishing the government. The UCC was created and legislation regarding it was introduced. “We will now completely and formally meet that commitment on Monday,” he stated.
