The DMCC has accused the Union Government of engaging in secret negotiations with Kuki militants while ignoring resolutions passed by the Manipur Assembly. Alleging political manipulation and the deliberate weakening of Meitei leadership, the committee warns that peace will remain elusive under the current approach.

The Delhi Meetei Coordinating Committee (DMCC) has called for the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, holding him responsible for the deteriorating law and order situation in Manipur. Their demand follows reports that Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh tendered his resignation after allegedly being directed to step down by Shah during a meeting in New Delhi.

At an emergency meeting on February 9, the DMCC unanimously resolved that removing the Chief Minister alone would not bring peace to Manipur. Instead, they urged the Union Government to end its alleged appeasement of Kuki militants. The committee accused the Centre of leveraging Kuki armed groups for geopolitical interests in Burma and failing to act against their repeated violations of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement.
The DMCC further claimed that Shah and the BJP leadership have taken direct control of Manipur’s administration, reducing the state government to a mere figurehead. They also criticized the Peace Committee announced by Shah in June 2023, calling it a “defunct body” that has failed to produce any tangible results.
Centre’s Alleged Inaction and Secret Deals with Kuki Militants
The DMCC claimed that the Home Ministry has allegedly allowed Kuki militants to continue attacks on Meitei villages, police outposts, and government offices. Citing multiple instances of inaction, including attacks in Churachandpur and Kanglatongbi, the DMCC condemned the BJP-led Centre for disregarding the Manipur government’s resolutions.
The Manipur Cabinet had decided in March 2023 to abrogate the SoO pact with the Kuki National Army (KNA) and Zomi Revolutionary Army (ZRA), and in February 2024, the Manipur Assembly unanimously urged the Centre to completely revoke the agreement with all Kuki-Zo militant groups. However, the DMCC alleged that the Union Government ignored these resolutions and instead engaged in secret negotiations with Kuki militants, exacerbating unrest.
Removal of Governor and Doubts Over Peace Efforts
Additionally, the committee expressed concerns over the unexplained removal of Manipur’s former Governor, who had been actively working to foster peace among communities. They argued that such actions raise serious doubts about the Centre’s commitment to restoring stability and security in the state.
The DMCC asserted that the crisis in Manipur is not just a failure of state leadership but a deliberate strategy by the Union Government to control the region’s politics while using ethnic conflicts to serve its own interests. The committee warned that unless the Centre changes its approach and stops undermining Meitei groups, peace in Manipur will remain elusive.
