September 15 – US President Donald Trump has reacted strongly to the brutal killing of 41-year-old Indian national Chandra Nagamallaiah, who was beheaded last week in Dallas, Texas, allegedly by an undocumented Cuban immigrant.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump vowed to prosecute the accused, 37-year-old Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, “to the fullest extent of the law” and promised tougher measures against undocumented immigrants.

“I am aware of the terrible reports regarding the murder of Chandra Nagamallaiah, a well-respected person in Dallas, Texas, who was brutally beheaded in front of his wife and son, by an ILLEGAL ALIEN from Cuba who should have never been in our Country,” Trump wrote.
“Rest assured, the time for being soft on these Illegal Immigrant Criminals is OVER under my watch!”

The Attack

On September 10, Nagamallaiah, manager of the Downtown Suites motel on Samuell Boulevard, was fatally attacked by Martinez, who allegedly used a machete in the assault. Disturbing CCTV footage circulating on social media showed the suspect repeatedly striking the victim in front of his wife and 18-year-old son before decapitating him.

Witnesses said the attacker kicked the victim’s severed head into the parking lot before placing it in a trash bin. Martinez was arrested soon after and charged with capital murder.

Trump Blames Biden Administration

Trump accused President Joe Biden’s administration of failing to prevent the killing, pointing to Martinez’s criminal history.

“This individual was previously arrested for terrible crimes, including child sex abuse, grand theft auto, and false imprisonment, but was released back into our Homeland under incompetent Joe Biden because Cuba did not want such an evil person in their Country,” Trump alleged.

DHS Response

The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed on Friday that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has begun proceedings to remove Martinez from the country.

In a statement, DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughli called the killing “gruesome and savage” and argued it could have been prevented.

“This slaying was completely preventable if this criminal illegal alien was not released into our country by the Biden Administration,” McLaughli said.

Records show Martinez was held at the ICE Bluebonnet Detention Centre in Dallas before being released on an Order of Supervision on January 13, 2025, under the Biden administration.

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
