Three jawans lost their lives while three others were injured in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch after terrorists ambushed two Army vehicles, officials said, as quoted by news agency PTI.
The targeted vehicles were carrying jawans from a location close to Bufliaz, where a counterterrorism operation had been underway since Wednesday night. The approximate area of Thanamandi, Rajouri, and DKG (Dera ki Gali) was the focus of the operation.
The attack occurred in the Savni area on the Rajouri-Thanamandi-Surankote road at approximately 3:45 pm. The terrorists opened fire on the convoy, which included a truck and a Gypsy.
Additional forces have been rushed to the spot and further details are awaited.
“Based on hard intelligence, a joint operation was launched last night. Contact was established today evening and an encounter is in progress. Further details are being ascertained,” a defence PRO told news agency PTI.
This attack follows an explosion that happened on Wednesday inside the compound of an armed police unit in the Poonch district of Jammu & Kashmir.
According to officials, an explosion that occurred in the Surankote region on the intervening night of December 19 and 20 caused damage to the windows of some vehicles that were parked close to the compound.
