On Monday, a 28-year-old woman was taken into custody in the Jubilee Hills neighborhood of Hyderabad, Telangana, following allegations from a 16-year-old boy who claimed she had sexually assaulted him several times.
Woman charged under the POCSO Act
The woman, working as a maid, was charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act after a complaint was filed by the parents of the teenage boy.
The boy and his family live in the staff quarters of a bungalow, where the accused also resided. Police authorities stated that the woman supposedly made friends with the teenager and welcomed him to her house multiple times before assaulting him sexually. The assaults were said to have taken place in the same housing complex.
Woman threatened boy not to tell anyone
As per investigators, the matter was revealed when the boy’s parents observed signs of distress in his behavior. “He seemed emotionally distressed and unhappy. When his parents talked to him, he disclosed that the woman had sexually abused him and also threatened him not to tell anyone,” stated an officer from the Jubilee Hills Police.
Stunned by the revelation, the boy’s family first confronted the woman before contacting the police. A legal case was filed, and the woman was arrested. She was subsequently presented to a magistrate and placed in judicial custody.
The police are still investigating and have requested care and sensitivity in covering the case, highlighting that the minor’s identity is being safeguarded according to legal regulations.
While the sexual assault of the minor boy is not new to the society, these type of cases have become quite common in recent times. This case highlights the importance of safety of a man amid the numerous instances of harassment of women in the Indian society.
