The layoffs, driven by “organisational changes,” have made several roles redundant, with India—one of Oracle’s largest workforce hubs—emerging as one of the worst-affected regions.

April 1, 2026: In a sweeping restructuring move, US-based tech giant Oracle Corporation has reportedly laid off around 12,000 employees in India, with sources indicating that another round of job cuts could follow within the next month. The development marks one of the largest workforce reductions in the company’s India operations in recent years.
According to multiple employees affected by the decision—including individuals from the human resources division—the layoffs are part of a broader global downsizing effort. Worldwide, Oracle is estimated to have cut nearly 30,000 jobs as it reshapes its operational priorities.

Restructuring and Redundancies
In an internal communication sent to impacted staff, Oracle cited “organisational changes” as the reason behind the layoffs. The company stated that efforts to streamline operations had led to certain roles becoming redundant.
While the company has not officially confirmed the scale of the layoffs, it has also declined to comment publicly on the reports.
India, a major hub for Oracle with an estimated workforce of around 30,000 employees, appears to be among the hardest-hit regions in this phase of restructuring.
Severance Package Details
Employees affected by the layoffs have reportedly been offered a compensation package that includes:
- 15 days’ salary for each completed year of service
- Payment of one month’s notice period
- Encashment of unused leave
- Gratuity (where applicable)
- An additional two months’ salary as a top-up
However, the full severance package is contingent upon employees opting for voluntary and amicable resignation.
Employee Accounts Raise Concerns
Some former employees have raised concerns about workplace conditions and the broader impact of the layoffs. Merugu Sridhar, an ex-employee, claimed he was let go in September after protesting against what he described as a 16-hour work shift in India operations.
He also suggested that Indian employees working in the United States may have been disproportionately affected due to stricter labour protections for local workers. “Local laws in the US make retrenchment of citizens more difficult, which could be influencing these decisions,” he said.
More Layoffs Likely
Insiders warn that the current round of layoffs may not be the last. With another phase reportedly under consideration, uncertainty continues to loom over Oracle’s workforce in India.
The restructuring reflects a broader trend in the global technology sector, where companies are increasingly prioritising efficiency, automation, and cost optimisation amid shifting economic conditions.
