Former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi passes away
Senior BJP leader Sushil Modi passed away Monday evening night at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi. The 72-year-old had been in the AIIMS intensive care unit for last one month, where he was receiving treatment for cancer.

Due to his health, the BJP’s veteran leader, who was formerly the party’s most well-known figure in Bihar, decided not to run in the current Lok Sabha elections. On April 3, he made the announcement via a post on X (formerly Twitter).
It was anticipated that his absence in Bihar, where he had a significant impact on the party that had grown over three decades, would be the most felt by his departure.

In two terms spanning over 11 years, from 2005 to 2020, he was Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar.
Senior leaders mourn his demise
Senior BJP leaders like PM Modi, Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and Ravi Shankar Prasad expressed their condolences after the demise of Sushil Kumar Modi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was “saddened” by the passing of Sushil Modi, a longtime friend and valued party colleague. He was given credit by Prime Minister Modi for the “rise and success of BJP in Bihar”.

Bihar has lost a great political pioneer forever, according to Union Home Minister Amit Shah. “His politics was dedicated to the interests of the poor and the backward. The void that has emerged in Bihar politics due to his demise cannot be filled for a long time,” he posted on X.

Sushil Modi’s last rites to take place on Tuesday
According to party sources, the last rites of Sushil Kumar Modi will take place around 6 pm in Patna on Tuesday,
“At approximately 11.30 am, Sushil Modi’s mortal remains would be transported from Delhi to Patna and brought to his Rajendra Nagar residence. Later, party members will pay their respects to the late leader at the BJP state headquarters and the Bihar assembly when his body is brought there,” said a senior Bihar BJP member.
According to him, the funeral would be held in Patna’s Digha Ghat Crematorium, and J P Nadda, the head of the BJP, is likely to be present there.
He will be cremated with full state honours, a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office said.
