A stage fell during a Jain Nirvana festival in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday morning, resulting in 5 casualities and injuries to many, including women and children.
The event occurred when a temporary stage constructed from bamboo and wood fell apart during a laddoo celebration.
As per police officials, numerous devotees arrived at the location to present laddoos to Lord Adinath while Jain monks were present.
Event conducted every year for almost 30 years
“This event has been conducted for almost 30 years. A minimum of 40 individuals have sustained injuries. They have been taken to the hospital and are receiving treatment,” stated Baghpat’s District Magistrate Asmita Lal.

On Tuesday morning, rescue efforts commenced to free individuals stuck beneath the temporary stage, and officials have taken steps to respond.
Uttar Pradesh’s chief minister Yogi Adityanath took cognizance of the incident and instructed local district officials to offer prompt assistance to those injured. He also hoped for a quick recovery for those harmed in the accident.
The injured were immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment.
A ‘machaan’ (temporary platform) collapsed during the ‘Laddu Mahotsav’ event of the Jain community in Baraut. According to the latest information received, approximately 20-25 individuals sustained injuries. Some had common injuries and were given first aid before being discharged home. 2-3 individuals have suffered serious injuries and are receiving care in local hospitals,” SP Arpit Vijayvargiya told ANI.
