Assassination of Moosewala
On May 29, 2022, Siddhu Moose Wala was shot and killed in his car in Jawaharke village of Mansa by unknown assailants. As of June 2022, Lawrence Bishnoi was detained by the Punjab Police and was regarded by authorities as the “mastermind” of the murder. Police believe that Bishnoi’s gang first claimed responsibility for the murder in an unconfirmed Facebook post, which Bishnoi denied creating.
Police claim that Moose Wala, together with his neighbor Gurwinder Singh and cousin Gurpreet Singh, left his home at approximately 4:30 p.m. Moose Wala was traveling to his aunt’s Barnala home in his black Mahindra Thar SUV. When the SUV arrived to Jawaharke about 5:30 p.m., two other vehicles blocked and stopped it.
During the incident, thirty shots were fired, injuring two other persons. Moose Wala used his weapon to retaliate against the assailants. The attackers fled the location after the gunfight. Moose Wala was pronounced dead at the civic hospital in Mansa, where his father had brought him.
