Shreyas Iyer becomes most expensive player in IPL history

During the 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Sunday, Shreyas Iyer was named the priciest player in IPL auction history.

Bidding started at Rs. for Shreyas, whose base price was Rs. Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals competed for the player, driving his price over Rs. 2 crore.

The previous record was the 24.75 crore-mark. PBKS finally agreed to a deal worth Rs 26.75 crore with him.

In the previous season, the Indian batsman guided Kolkata Knight Riders to victory in the IPL championship.

Shreyas surpassed Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc’s record. Starc made history in the Indian Premier League as Kolkata Knight Riders purchased him for Rs 24.75 crore, making him the most expensive signing ever.

The offer for Starc exceeded the previous auction record set when Pat Cummins was purchased by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 20.5 cr.
