Senior leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) and former Home Minister of Maharashtra, Anil Deshmukh, was injured when unknown individuals threw stones at their car on the Katol-Jalalkheda Road in Nagpur district.

The event took place while Deshmukh was coming back from a rally in Narkhed supporting his son, Salil Deshmukh, who is running as a candidate for the Maharashtra Assembly elections under the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) party.

While being attacked, a stone hit the car’s window, which then hit Deshmukh on the head, resulting in visible injuries. Images from the incident depict the ex-minister bleeding, with fragments of glass spread throughout the car.

Deshmukh was promptly taken to a medical facility in Katol, where he was given medical care. It is still unclear what the reason for the attack was and who the individuals responsible are.

Although Anil Deshmukh is currently the MLA, this time the NCP(SP) has chosen his son Salil Deshmukh as their candidate from the constituency. Anil Deshmukh served as a minister in the Maha Vikas Aghadi government under the leadership of Uddhav Thackeray.

The Maharashtra Home Minister resigned after allegations from the Mumbai Police Commissioner, accusing him of directing police officers to extort money from hotel and bar owners in the city.

Subsequently, Deshmukh faced arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in November 2021 for alleged money laundering, and by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in April 2022 over accusations of corruption. After more than a year in judicial custody, the Bombay High Court granted him bail.

In July of this year, Deshmukh accused Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadavis of pressuring him to submit false affidavits against ex-Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and three other MVA leaders in order to disrupt the government three years ago.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
