Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday shared a video on X, showcasing his interaction with individuals he described as “dead voters,” while ironically thanking the Election Commission (EC) for facilitating the encounter.
In the clip, Gandhi is seen speaking with people who claimed they were officially marked as deceased in voter lists despite being alive. “I have had many interesting experiences in life, but never got the chance to have tea with ‘dead people’. Thank you, Election Commission, for this unique experience!” Gandhi wrote alongside the video.

Addressing the group, he says, “I have heard that you guys are not alive. The Election Commission has killed you,” and inquires how they discovered the discrepancy. Participants replied that they noticed the errors in official voter lists. One man mentioned that in a single panchayat, there were at least 50 such cases, including some in the constituency of RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav. Several attendees claimed they had written proof and even stood six hours in the Supreme Court to assert their voting rights.

The group alleged that the Election Commission has not provided sufficient information on these cases. Many participants said they had traveled long distances to highlight the issue, urging political leaders to unite to “save Bihar” from voter list irregularities.
The video follows Rahul Gandhi’s earlier allegations on August 7, where he claimed fake entries were being added to voter rolls, citing examples from Karnataka. Gandhi had referred to what he called a “bhayankar chori” (massive theft) of votes in the Mahadevapura assembly segment of the Bangalore Central Lok Sabha seat. The Election Commission, however, has consistently rejected Gandhi’s claims, describing them as misleading.
The incident comes amid the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in poll-bound Bihar, adding fuel to the Opposition’s critique of the EC’s management of voter lists.
