New Delhi, December 10, 2025: The Lok Sabha witnessed one of its most electrifying exchanges in years on Tuesday when Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi directly challenged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to an immediate, point-by-point debate on his allegations of large-scale “vote chori” through manipulated electoral rolls.
The dramatic moment came midway through Shah’s reply during the debate on electoral reforms. As the Home Minister mocked Congress’s repeated complaints about voter lists, dismissing them as sour grapes after electoral defeats, Gandhi rose from his seat and cut in.
“Amit Shah ji, you are quoting my press conferences selectively,” Gandhi said, his voice echoing across the chamber. “Let us settle it once and for all. I challenge you — right here in this House — to a full debate on all three of my press conferences on vote chori. Come, let’s do it.”
For a few seconds, the House fell silent. Then Shah, gripping the microphone tightly, responded with controlled fury: “I have been elected to legislative assemblies and Parliament for over thirty years. No one, not even the Leader of the Opposition, will dictate the sequence of my speech. Parliament does not run according to Rahul Gandhi’s wishes. Sit down, listen patiently — I will answer every question, but in the order I decide.”
Gandhi shot back instantly: “Yeh dara hua jawab hai” — this is a scared reply.
The retort triggered pandemonium. Congress members thumped desks in approval while BJP MPs shouted “shame.” Speaker Om Birla was forced to briefly suspend the sitting to restore order.

Rahul Gandhi has challenged Amit Shah on floor of Lok Sabha
“Amit Shah Ji, let’s have debate on my three Press Conferences against Election Commission on Vote Chori” 🔥

The clash stems from Rahul Gandhi’s sustained campaign since October accusing the Election Commission and the ruling party of orchestrating the “biggest vote theft in independent India” through the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and new laws granting lifetime immunity to Election Commissioners. In three widely publicised press conferences, Gandhi claimed crores of voters — particularly from marginalised communities — were being systematically deleted in BJP-ruled states while duplicate entries were being added in favour of the ruling party.

Shah, in his nearly hour-long speech, turned the tables, accusing the Congress and the Nehru-Gandhi family of being the original practitioners of “generational vote chori.” He revisited the 1946 selection of India’s first Prime Minister, the Allahabad High Court striking down Indira Gandhi’s 1971 election, and what he called questionable voting by Sonia Gandhi before she obtained citizenship.
“Those who committed vote chori for decades are now preaching democracy to us,” Shah declared, drawing roars from the treasury benches.
Outside Parliament, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge told reporters that Rahul Gandhi remains ready for the debate “anytime, anywhere.” BJP spokespersons countered that the Home Minister had already demolished the opposition’s “fake narrative” with facts and history, and there was no need to accept a challenge from a “failed dynast.”
