Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has dismissed Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s claim about the results of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Zuckerberg suggested that many existing governments globally, including India, faced defeat in elections conducted after Covid-19. In response to Zuckerberg’s statement, Vaishnaw asserted that the claims were “factually inaccurate.”
Vaishnaw highlighted the factual inaccuracy of Zuckerberg’s statement and tweeted, “As the world’s largest democracy, India conducted the 2024 elections with over 640 million voters. People of India reaffirmed their trust in NDA led by PM Narendra Modi’s leadership. Mr. Zuckerberg’s claim that most incumbent governments, including India in 2024 elections, lost post-Covid is factually incorrect.”
The Union Minister also conveyed dissatisfaction regarding the dissemination of false information by Meta’s CEO.
“Meta, it’s disappointing to see misinformation from Mr. Zuckerberg himself. Let’s uphold facts and credibility,” Ashwini Vaishnaw said on X.

In a recent podcast featuring Joe Rogan, Zuckerberg stated, “2024 was a significant election year globally. All these nations, including India, held elections. The current holders essentially lost each and every one. There appears to be a worldwide phenomenon—stemming from inflation, the economic measures taken for Covid, or the way governments responded to Covid—that seems to have produced this global impact.”
“There was broad decrease in trust in incumbents and maybe in these sorts of democratic institutions overall,” the Meta CEO said.
Zuckerberg’s remarks, particularly referencing India, elicited a strong reaction from the government, with Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw challenging his false assertions that the PM Modi-led government had been defeated in the 2024 elections.
